Photo Gallery: Building Phase 5

Phase 5 of the orphanage building was another exceptional building effort. Three professional builders from Michigan, Bruce Hendy, Jack Zimmer, and Michael David McConnell joined our work crew in Matamoros Mexico to complete 4 roofs in 5 days. A great deal of follow-up work was also completed between Phase 4 and Phase 5, which included putting shingles on our largest building Ciudad Central and closing it in so we can store materials inside. Block walls have been completed in the kitchen area for both the cooler and food storage. During Phase 5, the work teams did an exceptional job of not only putting 4 additional roofs on buildings, but finishing the wood work on the outside and sides of the roofs. This type of work takes a great deal of time because it requires customized cutting of various sizes of wood. In addition, our work crew from Mexico completed building the block walls for the girl’s dorm. Once again, Damon Nolan, the Building Supervisor, did an exceptional job of arranging for all of the building materials to be available when our workers got to Mexico. We are so blessed to have Damon leading the building effort on a daily basis.

The City of Children of Matamoros Mexico is slowly evolving into an extremely well built facility that will initially house approximately 40 children. We are now preparing to install our electric and plumbing for our first 5 buildings. We are praying hard to obtain the resources to build a maintenance building and then open the orphanage in January 2008. We still have a great deal of work to complete during the next 7 month. However, we are very confident and faithful that we will meet our timelines and build a well constructed, cost efficient facility at $30.00 per square foot. Most important, we will have a safe and loving facility for children in need. Phase 6 will begin in late July 2007.
